Homeopathic Medicine And Homeopathic Remedies For Perimenopause And Menopause

There are a few common symptoms which most women experience during the perimenopause and menopause.

These are:

  • Irregular periods

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Hot flushes

  • Chills

  • Night sweats

  • Sleep problems and insomnia

  • Mood changes and swings

  • Weight gain and slowed metabolism

  • Thinning hair and dry skin

  • Loss of breast fullness

  • Brain fog

  • Anxiety

When using homeopathic remedies and homeopathic medicine to treat perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms it’s important to match the individual as well as the symptoms to the remedy.  Everyone experiences their symptoms slightly differently.

It is possible to use homeopathic medicine and homeopathic remedies at home to treat yourself. Below are some of the most commonly used remedies.

However, more often than not there are underlying health issues, be they mental, emotional or physical, which may be influencing the way the symptoms are experienced.  In a homeopathic consultation we would look at not only your menopausal symptoms, but also at you as an individual and a whole and a remedy would be prescribed on the whole picture.  This type of prescribing is much more effective at reducing or even eliminating symptoms long term, rather than treating them as and when they continue to occur.

The most commonly self prescribed homeopathic medicine and remedies are:

Lachesis

Lachesis is a really useful remedy for menopause and is often useful for women who have felt terrible since the onset of menopause.  Some of its key symptoms are:

  • Hemorrhages

  • Fainting

  • Weakness

  • Melancholy

  • Periods every 21 days

  • Profuse and heavy periods

  • Usually worse before menses and pains and mood are improved by the flow

  • Hot flushes/flashes with headaches, palpitations and hot sweats

  • Headaches especially in the vertex with burning sensations

  • Some nausea, diarrhea or hemorrhoids

  • Possible pain in the left ovary with swelling

  • Possible prolapsed uterus

  • Asthmatic since menopause

  • Worse for a short nap

I've also found this remedy to be useful for people who experience intense heat when angry, especially around period time.

Sulphuric Acid

This remedy often complements Sepia.  Some of it's symptoms are:

  • Weakness and debility, especially in the digestive system with a relaxed feeling to the stomach and craving for stimulants

  • Out of proportion weakness

  • Hemorrhages of thin black blood vessels

  • Vaginal and uterine prolapse from weakness

  • Flushes of heat followed by sweating and trembling all over

  • Irritable

  • Weepiness over the slightest thing

  • Nightmares before or after periods

  • Have to hurry everything

  • Angry and impatient because of things moving slowly

  • No one can please them

Calcium Carbonicum

A typical calc carb woman is responsible, dutiful and hard-working.  A pillar of their

community.  She may take on too many responsibilities and become overwhelmed by them.  She feels like she's going mad and worries others will see it. There's a strong focus on security and lots of anxieties around money and health.  When she's ill, there is despair of ever recovering.

Some of the symptoms she may experience are:

  • Hot flushes with burning sensations in the vertex

  • Head and neck are wet with perspiration and worse during sleep

  • Abnormal bleeding and uterine fibroids, sometimes with uterine hemorrhages.

Sepia

Sepia is such a great woman's remedy.  It has all sorts of excellent uses. But some of the

menopausal symptoms is may help with are:

  • Feeling worn out and worn down

  • Exhausted

  • Weepy

  • Weak

  • Perspire profusely

  • Need air

  • Must sit down with crossed legs, with the feeling as if their insides would fall out

  • So worn out they appear indifferent to loved ones

  • Feeling as if they need to scream unless they hold on to something

  • Dullness of mind

  • Absent minded with no initiative

  • Vaginal dryness with pain during intercourse

  • Lack of desire or aversion to sex

  • Flooding during periods

  • Sudden hot flushes

  • Sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach

  • Better for activity and open air, better for warmth and for eating

  • Better after a short nap

These ladies may have a sharp tongue and almost enjoy hurting their loved ones.  It's not that they don't love their family, they just feel as if they have nothing more to give.

Folliculinum

This remedy is just all round wonderful for hormones in general.  It's very useful for women who have previously been on the pill. However, its symptoms related to menopause may be:

  • History of abuse - mental, sexual or physical

  • Symptoms occur between ovulation and period

  • May have had a very strict upbringing

  • Unfocused and feeling spaced out

  • Lose herself in her relationships

  • May become addicted to rescuing people

  • Feels drained

  • Has become a door-mat

  • Forgotten who she is.  Has no individuality.

  • Restless, hyperactive and worse at rest

  • Dizziness and faintness

  • Puts on weight without over eating - up to 3kg (7lbs) before menses

  • HUGE food cravings, especially sugar and sweets

  • Irregular cycle

  • Flooding

  • Hot flushes/night sweats

  • Abdominal heaviness

  • Fibroids

  • Vaginal dryness

Folliculinum helps to restore the woman to herself and re-empower her.  It helps with regaining control of life and to stop being used by others.

Pulsatilla

This remedy is often used in the menopause and is for women who are of a mild and generally yielding disposition.  She is emotional and easily moved to tears or laughter. She has very changeable moods and can cry at every little thing.  She loves to be comforted.

She may also be easily irritated and may feel slighted or has a fear of being slighted.  Generally, she feels better in the fresh air and worse in a warm stuffy room and in the evenings.

Some symptoms may be:

  • Irregular menses - either too early or too late, too scanty or too profuse

  • Menses may be painful enough to induce vomiting or nausea and bending double helps with the pain.

  • Bleeding can happen in the day only

  • Difficulty sleeping because of hot flushes and anxious thoughts

  • Restless legs at night

You may be able to select a remedy by checking the symptoms listed above and matching it to you own.  From there you can order remedies from the Helios Homeopathic Pharmacy and treat yourself. This may give you temporary relief from your symptoms, but it takes the knowledge and experience of a Homeopath to know the correct potency and dose to administer to achieve long lasting relief.
