Menopause Supplements

The supplements you might need during perimenopause and post menopause are of course specific to how you are experiencing your symptoms. So if in doubt book in for a free 15 minute discovery call and I can advise you.

However, if you are fairly sure of what you want, you can consider the following:

Isoflavones - for hot flush management

Black Cohosh - for hot flash management

Multivitamins - for additional nutritional support

Beneficial Gut Bacteria - to help maintain balance in the gut flora

Krill Oil - to help boost Omega 3 consumption

Magnesium - for overall health

Bone support

Menopause Supplements

Menopause can go one of two ways. It can be a miserable experience characterised by aggravating menopause symptoms. Or, it can be a pain-free transition that’s barely noticeable. In fact, choosing the right menopause supplement can make all the difference.

Every woman experiences her own unique set of menopausal symptoms, which can include hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, heart palpitations, vaginal and urinary changes, and decreased memory and concentration. Most experts agree these symptoms are caused by low or fluctuating oestrogen levels, which throw everything off kilter. But that doesn’t mean a difficult menopause is unavoidable.

Between 75-85% of women going through “the change of life” report experiencing menopausal hot flushes. Yet only about 10% of Japanese women do. Why the discrepancy? It’s all in the diet. Japanese women eat several servings of soy a day, which naturally contain anti-hot-flush substances called isoflavones. British and American women don’t.

Phyto-flavone

Isoflavones help you get control of hot flushes, but they also provide relief for a whole range of symptoms. How? These phyto-nutrients have the remarkable ability to imitate the biological activities of female hormones. That means that even if your own natural levels of oestrogen are plummeting, isoflavones can trick your body into thinking it has enough.

Soy is well-known for its natural content of isoflavones and this supplement contains

100% natural isoflavones made from soy germ. Studies carried out with the soy ingredient we use in Phyto-Flavone show that it has positive effects on bone and heart health and also improves gut micro-flora.

Black Cohosh Essentials Supplement

Scientists have conducted numerous studies demonstrating the efficacy of black cohosh for relieving the discomforts of menopause, with minimal or no side effects. In fact, one double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found the herb was 47% more effective than conjugated oestrogen at beating menopause hot flushes! Cohosh has also been shown to help alleviate headaches, heart palpitations, and nervousness and irritability associated with menopause. The evidence is so strong that the German Commission E has approved black cohosh as a treatment for menopause.

50+ is Cytoplan's most comprehensive Whole-food multivitamin and mineral formula available incorporating antioxidant CoQ10, beta glucan, and good all-round vitamin and mineral levels including excellent levels of vitamins D3 and both active forms of vitamin B12. It is also high in natural phyto-antioxidants and immune system support.

  • This Whole-food multivitamin and mineral formula is high in B-complex vitamins (especially B12) and vitamin C

  • This Whole-food multivitamin supplement has optimal levels of vitamin D, which, is now considered one of the most vital vitamins for health and protection at all stages of life - and one of the most depleted. Vitamin D is provided as D3, the most bioeffective form, from lichen, which is also suitable for vegans

  • Includes excellent levels of trace minerals – zinc, selenium, chromium and others

  • CoQ10 is a vital part of all energy production in the mitochondria, the power houses of the cells, and CoQ10 can become seriously depleted as we get older

  • The heart muscles are permanently active and thus use significant quantities of CoQ10

  • Suitable levels of CoQ10 are even more necessary for those taking statin medication, as these drugs can inhibit the body’s production of CoQ10

  • This Whole-food multivitamin and mineral supplement contains ubiquinol - the best supplement form of CoQ10 as it is the reduced form and immediately bioavailable and bio-effective

  • This supplement also contains 1,3, 1,6 beta glucan for immune support

  • The excellent all-round levels of nutrients in this formula, especially vitamin B12 (included as methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin which are both active forms), vitamin D3 and CoQ10, make this an ideal Whole-food multivitamin and mineral formula for men and women aged 50 plus, and those on statin medication

  • This is a low iron formula (1mg per capsule). It is therefore suitable for men and post-menopausal women

  • Although this product is suitable for all ages, we particularly recommend it for people over 40 years of age

Krill Oil

Antarctic Krill Oil contains the beneficial omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and high levels of astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant. The EPA and DHA in krill oil are bound to phospholipids, which research suggests may be more easily absorbed by the gut than the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils. Phospholipids are a type of fat that are a major component of cell membranes.

  • Krill (Euphausia superba) are shrimp-like crustaceans found in Antarctic waters. All krill are red/pink due to their astaxanthin content.

  • Phospholipids transport essential nutrients directly into every cell of the body, they can even cross the blood-brain barrier. They are also structural components of cell membranes

  • One of the phospholipids in krill oil is phosphatidylcholine, which is a phospholipid attached to a choline molecule. Choline is used in the synthesis of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for memory. Choline also supports normal liver function but is often lacking in Western diets

  • Some research suggests the EPA and DHA in krill oil, which are bound to phospholipids, may be more easily absorbed by the gut than the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils

  • All the ingredients in our Krill Oil are present in naturally occurring levels (no added synthetic astaxanthin to elevate levels)

  • Cytoplan's Krill Oil comes from RIMFORST, a market leader in krill oil

  • RIMFROST krill oil has Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Friend of the Sea certifications. They are committed to maintaining the sustainability of krill within the strict guidelines of CCAMLR (The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources)

Choline contributes to:

Normal homocysteine metabolism
Normal lipid metabolism
The maintenance of normal liver function

DHA contributes to:

The maintenance of normal brain function (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA)
The maintenance of normal vision (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA)

DHA and EPA contribute to:

The normal function of the heart (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of EPA and DHA)
The maintenance of normal blood pressure (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3g of EPA and DHA)
The maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels (the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 2g of EPA and DHA)

Bio-food Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral that is a cofactor for over 300 enzymes. Nearly 70% of the body’s supply is located in the bones - magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal muscle function.

  • Food sources of magnesium are far better absorbed than inorganic sources

  • Magnesium contributes to many essential metabolic processes including normal energy-yielding metabolism and normal functioning of the nervous system

  • Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and normal psychological function

  • Due to changes in farming methods, magnesium levels in food have declined over the past 80+ years and it is further depleted from our diet by food processing and cooking techniques

  • Cytoplan Food State magnesium tablets are combined in a base of inactive Lactobacillus bulgaricus, a native and friendly bacterial inhabitant of the digestive tract

Magnesium contributes to:

  • a reduction of tiredness and fatigue

  • electrolyte balance

  • maintenance of normal bones and teeth

Magnesium contributes to normal:

  • psychological function

  • energy-yielding metabolism

  • muscle function

  • functioning of the nervous system

  • protein synthesis

  • cell division

Bone Support

Cytoplan Bone Support multi-nutrient formulation is specifically tailored for those who are concerned about bone health and bone mineral density, providing calcium along with other nutrients - magnesium, vitamins D and K and boron.

  • Bone Support capsules have excellent levels of all the important vitamin and mineral nutrients associated with bone support and bone health

  • Cytoplan's Bone Support formula provides Whole-food calcium, an organic multi-mineral seaweed product. Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones

  • Calcium helps to reduce the loss of bone mineral in post-menopausal women. Low bone mineral density is a risk factor for osteoporotic bone fractures

  • 70% of the body’s magnesium is stored in bone. As magnesium is also needed for the maintenance of normal bone, it is also included in this supplement

  • Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and protein synthesis, also relevant here

  • Vitamin D is most commonly associated with its role in bone support; it contributes to normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, and thus the maintenance of normal bones. We use vitamin D3 in our supplements as it is the most bioavailable form of this nutrient. Our vitamin D3 is from lichen and therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans

  • Vitamin K is included as K2 (MK-7) - it is an important co-factor to proteins which are essential for the bone building process. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. It is also important to supplement vitamin K alongside vitamin D to ensure that calcium is deposited in bone rather than soft tissues

  • Boron, a trace mineral, is also included

Calcium contributes to normal:

  • muscle function

  • neurotransmission

  • blood clotting

  • energy-yielding metabolism

  • digestive enzyme function
